Crafting Sharp Traditions
At Martin's Razors, we bring old blades back to life with professional restoration and precise honing, ensuring every shave feels like a ritual. We will evaluate your vintage razor for free to determine suitability for restoration.
Our restored vintage razors go through various processes to achieve the ultimate goal - a bit of history you'll enjoy owning and shaving with daily. Each razor is disinfected, disassembled and all rust, if any, is removed. Then, depending on the blade's condition, it might be carefully treated by greaseless compounds of various grits on cotton buffing wheels or only need a bit of hand sanding. If the razor has etching, every effort is made to retain the etching, which may leave patina or slight pitting on the blade. Depending on the scale material, the scales may be soaked in neatsfoot oil (bone or horn) and/or hand sanded to restore them to original condition as much as possible.
Next, diamond polishing compound is used to restore as much of the original luster as possible. Then the blade is polished with metal polish and reassembled for honing. The bevel is set on a Naniwa Chosera 1K, the progressed through a variety of natural stones.
The final step is the test shave. If our razor does not pass our shave test, it is never listed on our site for sale as "shave ready".
We guarantee you will be happy with our work!
